Body of 15-year-old boy found in bushland in south-west Sydney
Police are investigating a camping event after the body of a 15-year-old boy was found in bushland south-west of Sydney on Saturday morning.
Officers have yet to formally identify the body, found near Wilton Park Road, Wilton, at 7.25am. They believe it is that of a teenager local to the area and have notified his family.
Acting Superintendent Tim Calman said on Saturday afternoon that while the death was being treated as suspicious, no suspects or possible motives had been identified.
“The information that we have at this stage is that there may have been a group that were camping in that area and we believe that persons associated with that camping event may have been involved,” Calman said.
“It’s probably too early to speculate whether it’s intentional or an accident,” Calman said.
Police believe the boy may have died on Friday evening, but they only received a call regarding the boy’s welfare on Saturday morning.
The boy was not known to police and had not been reported missing.
The area is accessible only by Wilton Park Road, which is now closed.
Camden police secured a crime scene. Detectives from the area and the homicide squad are involved in the investigation.
