In its final years of government, Queensland Labor copped a lot of flak over stadiums. Adamant they would not spend billions in taxpayer money on a new Olympic stadium, they advocated first for a rebuilt Gabba, and then a venue at QSAC.

Back then, he said: “If you’re asking me whether or not I support a new stadium, the answer is ‘no’.”

But since taking office as premier, his language has shifted.

The scope of the 100-day review, which will finally be shared with the public today, explicitly included “new, upgraded and temporary venues”.

Speaking this year, his line has been: “I don’t want the focus to be on new stadiums.”
