‘Disgusting behaviour’: Police memorial wall vandalised on long weekend
A memorial wall dedicated to police officers killed in the line of duty has become a crime scene after it was damaged by vandals over the long weekend.
The Police Wall of Remembrance in the Domain was defaced with the words “evil” and “dogs” etched above the names of the fallen police officers.

Police believe the wall was vandalised about 3.15am on Saturday; however, the damage was only discovered by police during Sunday’s Australia Day celebrations.
A crime scene was established which will be examined by forensic officers.
“This is disgusting behaviour. Police put themselves in danger every day in the service of our state,” Premier Chris Minns said.
“To deface a memorial that commemorates police officers who have served the state and those who have lost their lives whilst on duty is lower than low.”

The vandalism of the “sacred site” is the “lowest of acts”, police minister Yasmin Catley said.
“Police are investigating and will leave no stone unturned in order to identify and arrest the cowards responsible.”
Police will work with City of Sydney council to repair the damage and are asking for anyone with footage of the incident to come forward.
The memorial wall was dedicated in 1999, and police and dignitaries gather there each year on September 29 to commemorate National Police Remembrance Day.
