Federal election 2025 LIVE updates: PM edges ahead in poll; Labor promises cheaper home batteries

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Catherine King is in Melbourne’s outer suburbs this morning spruiking the government’s $1 billion investment in road upgrades in Victoria.
King told 3AW’s Tom Elliott this morning the funding was needed to “play catchup” in Victoria after a decade of neglect, which she attributed to a tense relationship between the state Labor government and the former federal Coalition.

The funding would go towards fixing potholes and upgrading “sketchy” intersections. King was speaking from one such intersection on the Calder Highway which will receive an upgrade if Labor is elected.
On the Suburban Rail Loop east project, King said the state government had “a little bit more work” to do before the federal government committed to further funding.
“It’s not a ‘no never’, it’s just a no now,” King said. “There’s no money in the forward estimates … other than the $2.2 billion already invested.”
