‘Happiest day of our lives’: Missing hiker found alive almost two weeks after disappearance
Nazari was believed to have been found by other hikers about 20 kilometres from a main command post in Geehi, Nine News reported.
Late on December 31, rubbish and hiking poles believed to belong to the bushwalker were found near Kosciuszko Creek, which was the focus area of the search. Other items belonging to Nazari had been found in recent days.
A multi-agency search involving police, the State Emergency Service, ambulance, VRA Rescue NSW and national parks officers began the day after Nazari went missing.
Last week searchers said they held out hope the 23-year-old would be found alive, with Riverina Police District acting superintendent Jill Gibson saying on Friday more than 250 staff were searching for him.
“This remains an active search and rescue, and we are not giving up hope of finding him alive,” Gibson said in a statement on Friday.
“The location comprises of incredibly dense bushland and challenging conditions on the ground, with the bushland so dense that searchers – in some parts – can’t see their feet.”
