‘I’m so overwhelmed’: Centra joins Collingwood as No.1 AFLW pick

Collingwood have lobbed for Gippsland product Ash Centra as the No.1 selection in the 2024 AFLW Draft.

Described as a classy forward/midfielder with strong composure, Centra stood out for Victoria Country in their national championships clash against Victoria Metro this year at Marvel Stadium.

Collingwood men’s No.1 draft pick a quarter of a century ago, ruckman Josh Fraser, was one of the Collingwood officials on hand to present Centra with her new jumper.

“To be honest I’m so overwhelmed,” Centra told the audience at the draft.

“It’s a big night.”

This week she knew the top pick status could be hers. “I just tried to surround myself with my family and friends,” she said.

Centra hails from Seaspray, a tiny town on the Gippsland coast, and played her junior footy for Sale.
