New Year’s Eve 2024 LIVE updates: Australia awaits Sydney fireworks display to ring in 2025
Braving the crowds in the early hours of the morning to snag a harbour front view might not be for everyone, but there’s plenty happening to ring in the new year.
Here are some of the events happening across greater Sydney:
In Parramatta Park a free concert featuring Bag Raiders, Cut Copy and a DJ set from Dorothy the Dinosaur will keep adults and kids entertained.
There’s also rides, roving performers, a bar and food stalls all kicking off at 5pm before a 9pm family fireworks show.
Evelyn Morgan, 45, said when she saw people already lined up for a spot overlooking the harbour on the news at 7.30am, she decided to take her four children to see the rival Parramatta display.
“I brought the kids to see the [Parramatta] fireworks before, but years and years ago – a lot’s changed since then. Now there’s a lot more people that come.”
Her husband James, 47, said it meant they could avoid the crowded trains into the city from Fairfield, instead parking cheaply nearby in the western Sydney CBD.
“We got here early, thinking it was going to be packed, but there’s not many people yet,” he said.
North of the bridge there will be fireworks at Manly at 9pm, and midnight fireworks at Bayview.
The popular Coogee Sparkles event is happening again this year with a 15-minute firework display at 9pm.
Liverpool City Council is putting on a 9pm fireworks display at Warwick Farm racecourse complete with live music and carnival rides.
