Oxford mum raises hundreds for daughter’s football club
Cathy Oliveira, 45, has raised nearly £300 for Headington-based Quarry Rovers FC in less than two years by booking her holiday, and doing her shopping, online.
As the club’s chair, she took action when its pitches became unplayable due to waterlogging.
She helped the club to secure a £67,000 Football Foundation Grass Pitch Maintenance Fund grant, on the condition they raised a further £34,000 over six years.
Ms Oliveira said: “It’s a huge amount of money for a club that just aims to break even at the end of every season.
“We want to make sure in six years’ time kids can still play football. We’re looking at the future of the club, this is my legacy.”
She registered Quarry Rovers FC on easyfundraising and now every time she shops online, a percentage of what she spends goes to the club at no extra cost to her.
She added: “I started googling fundraising ideas and found easyfundraising.
“The more I looked into it, the more it made sense. Everyone does online shopping.
“You don’t have to go out and bake cakes, you don’t have to do anything except use easyfundraising to shop, and it’s totally free.”
Ms Oliveira has also encouraged other members to do the same, raising £1,800 so far.
