Police have shot a man after he allegedly threatened workers inside a Brisbane furniture warehouse with a machete early on Monday.

The man in his 40s allegedly threatened workers at an Amart distribution centre in Rochedale on Brisbane’s southside about 5.50am.

When the police arrived at the Brickworks Place warehouse, the man allegedly turned on them.

“Responding police deployed a Taser however it was ineffective and as the man continued to advance on police, they discharged one shot which struck the man,” police said in a statement.

The officers gave the man medical assistance before he was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

In a statement released after the incident, Amart said an “unauthorised person” was at the Rochedale premises.

“The situation was promptly handled by the onsite team, ensuring the safety of Amart employees, who were physically unharmed during the event,” the company said.

“Amart staff at the distribution centre followed the company’s business continuity plan, securing themselves within the building while notifying authorities.

“The distribution centre has limited customer interaction and no customers were on site at the time of the incident.”
